@hughhewitt Maybe the difference is that it's a problem not having a Secretary of Homeland Security, and the US was actually worse off not having Grenell serve as Ambassador.

Both Napolitano and Chertoff argued the difference is that national security heads are typically confirmed on Day One.
As Napolitano was under Obama. As John Kelly was under Trump.

LOL. Come on Hugh. “Rand Paul denied he’s full of crap” is not a powerful argument. Luttig I respect, but his view is a minority one. I stand by every letter of what I said. Constitutional fidelity is not what’s driving the GOP on this. I think you’re naive to think otherwise.

So there is no evidence that can persuade you, which makes reason unavailable. FWIW here are his comments: Plus those of Senator @JohnCornyn:

"What President Biden wants to do is make sure that those folks have better choices... That they can be the people to go to work to make the solar panels."

I asked Sen. Paul about your accusation this AM Jonah. He rejected it. The audio and transcript will be published. My position is long-standing, backed by folks like Luttig, Dershowitz and Turley. You disagree. Many scholars and teachers w/you. Going full Kreskin isn't credible.

Rand Paul on @hughhewitt: "To impeach former presidents means that we could impeach any private citizen & our founding fathers didn’t want that. The other reason I did the vote was this basically, essentially by the vote yesterday, says the impeachment trial is dead on arrival”

News: Sen. Tom Carper introduces the Washington, D.C. Admission Act to make DC the 51st state.

D.C. statehood would require a constitutional amendment: Not so for Puerto Rico.

Had to get @RepGallagher into third segment today as he wouldn't go for fourth.

Played @LeaderMcConnell entire floor speech on the filibuster from Tuesday, and the after-effects that would follow its elimination. @Sen_JoeManchin (D-WV) and @SenatorSinema (D-AZ) have guaranteed the filibuster for at least this Congress so no one has to go full Bibulus...yet.

First the U.S. needs to control #BigTech before it helps #BigTech:

from @WashingtonPost: "Nearly all GOP senators vote against impeachment trial for Trump, signaling likely acquittal; from @NYTimes: "Republicans Rally Against Impeachment Trial, Signaling Likely Acquittal for Trump"; etc etc etc. Everybody knows its a giant waste of time. 3

Headlines: From @FT: "Nearly all Republicans back Trump in early impeachment test"; from UK's @Telegraph: "Democrat hopes of convicting Trump fade as only five Republican Senators back holding a Senate trial"; 1

Most people should know it is at best arguably constitutional and very likely unconstitutional (the better argument), and is eating up time in pandemic and @JoeBiden's "100 Days." A sham show trial to satisfy the left, and @JoeBiden should call on it to end before it begins. 4

from @TimesofIsrael: "Republican senators mostly vote against holding Trump impeachment trial"; @WSJ: "Most Republican Senators Reject Constitutionality of Trump Impeachment"; 2

Excellent idea from @WSJ:

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo (@GovRaimondo will soon change to @SecRaimondo or some variation as she takes helm at Commerce) is the one to watch as challenger to VP Harris in 2024:

Rick Merritt, who served 25 years in the 75th Ranger Regiment, calls @SollenbergerRC's piece in @Salon “absurd,” “unfair,” and “almost slanderous.”

"It’s a fact that [Cotton] is a Ranger, just like I’m a Ranger," Merritt tells @NRO.
